Dick and Careys instructional design models.
Dick and Careys instructional design models.
The dick and careys instructional design model is a
systematic approach to designing effective instruction. It was develop by walter
dick and lau carey in the 1970s and has since becomes widely used in instructional
design practice this model consist of nine steps.
1. Identify
instructional goals: this steps involves clarifying the overall objectives of
the instruction and determining what learners should be able to do after
completing the instruction.
2. Conduct
instructional analysis: analyze the learning needs and characteristics of the
target audience including there their prior knowledge skills and abilities.
3. Analyze learners and context: assess the
learners characteristics such as there motivation attitudes and entry skills as
well as the learning environment including available resources and constraints.
4. Write
performance objectives: create specific and measurable objectives that outlines
what the learners should be able to demonstrate at the end of the instructions.
5. Develop
assessment instruments: design assessment instruments, such as tests or
assignments that can measure the
learners achievement of the performance objectives.
6. Develop
instructional strategy: determine the most appropriate instructional methods
media and techniques to deliver the content.
7. Develops
and select instructional materials: create or select the instructional
materials and resources that will be used to support the instruction such as
text books handouts etc.
8. Design and
conduct formative evaluation: conduct formative evaluations throughout the
development process to gather feedback from learners subject matter experts and
others stakeholders.
9. Design and
conduct summative evaluation: conduct a final evaluation of the instruction to
determine its overall effectiveness in achieving the desired learning outcomes.
